Departmental History

University of Nursing, Mandalay was established on 28th November 1998. The Department was run by U Aung Myint from 15.3.1999 to 7-2-2000 and then, U Sein Win from 12-7-2001 to 28-12-2006. At present, Dr. Thida Aung is the head of the Department. She has been assigned to the post 11-6-2007.

Departmental Objectives

Knowledge

1. To learn the basics of Myanmar writing
2. To know and understand basic Myanmar social ethics

Skill

1. To be able to write and speak Myanmar Language properly and accurately
2. To provide a basic for writing health education literature
3. Basic knowledge of translation skills

Course Description

Skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking of Myanmar language, systematic use of Myanmar language (prose, poems, summary writing, sorting words alphabetically, essays) to develop communication skills and broaden knowledge, effective use of spoken and written Myanmar language within nursing profession.

Course Goal

This course aims to further build students’ capacity in using Myanmar language to communicate effectively in the nursing field and social life.

Course Objectives

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

1. apply the Myanmar language’s basic concepts in writing notes and official letters
2. relate the Myanmar language’s social, cultural and ethical concepts in communication
3. speak concisely, expressively and effectively
4. organize facts and ideas in reading an article on health and related topic
