Departmental History

The Department of Fundamental Nursing was established on 28th, November, 1998. Daw San San Yin was appointed as a Tutor on 21st, September, 1998. Daw Lin Lin Khine was assigned as an Assistant Lecturer on 21st, April, 2000. Then, Professor Daw Tin Nwe took responsibilities of the Head of the Department from 16.10.2000 to 17.1.2008. After that, Professor Daw Khin Win took handover the Head of the Department position from 7.7.2008 to 3.5.2017. Afterward Professor Dr. Nyi Nyi Htay has taken responsibilities of the Head of the Department since 4.5.2017. At present, Professor Dr. Nyi Nyi Htay is appointed as Pro-Rector (Academic Affairs) and Head of the Department of Fundamental Nursing and Department of Community Health Nursing since 10.3.2020.


Departmental Objectives

To prepare nurse-graduates who are able to:

  1. Acquire knowledge in Nursing Foundation, which is applied in taking care of individuals, families and communities, including nursing theories, nursing process and basic and advanced nursing procedures
  2. Provide competent, holistic, safe, high-quality and culturally sensitive nursing care to address the health needs of individuals, families and communities
  3. Apply teaching/learning principles, models and strategies appropriately in nursing practice situations
  4. Demonstrate professional accountability and responsibility for nursing judgments and actions within an ethical and legal framework of MNMC and respective health care institutions
  5. Function effectively within nursing and interprofessional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision making to achieve quality health care
  6. Perform systematic review, critical appraisal and application of research findings from nursing and midwifery, and related sciences for translation into clinical practice
  7. To write a research proposal and conduct research independently or collaboration with other professionals in accordance with the current health needs of population in national and international level
  8. Nurture the culture of critical thinking, innovation, reflective practice, and adaptive expertise in the context of nursing practice, education and research
  9. Conduct continuing nursing education with the development of knowledge, skills, and attitude to improve nursing care services and better patients’ health outcomes
